I have never really felt at home in the US. There is always this strange feeling of being observed, this feeling of having to perform to meet different people's expectations of me based solely on their preconceived notions about my country. Am I being too Brazilian? Not Brazilian enough? Am I acting thankful enough for the fact that I get to be here?
