Eight to Eighteen (2026)

“ad hoc” Group Show, 2026, SITE Galleries, Chicago

Eight to Eighteen (2026) on view at “ad hoc” a group exhibition at SITE Galleries.

Eight to Eighteen is a digital photograph I took of my father on one of our many near-daily FaceTime calls.  I point my camera at the phone screen, zoom in as much as I can, and start taking pictures of my dad. The photograph slowly breaks down into RGB pixels that weave a barely identifiable image of my dad. Behind that photograph, I place three LED panels that I program to display poetry I’ve written about distance and longing, akin to signage one sees at subway stations.

Eight to Eighteen was a part of the group show ad hoc at SITE Galleries, curated by the SITE staff. A show of student work developed around text based works.

Exhibition programs at SAIC are made possible through the generous support of BLICK Art Materials. SAIC also acknowledges support from the Illinois Arts Council.

Video documentation of LEDs in motion.
